Fashion Board Blog Entry

Three of my favorite things to watch are "My So-Called Life," a 90's television show; "The Virgin Suicides," a movie made in 1999; and "Skins UK," a show which started a couple years ago. A main part of why these shows/movie are so great is based on the fashion, especially in certain characters. I decided on creating three collages inspired by the characters' fashion senses, along with hints of Fall trends such as 90's grunge and girly meets menswear.

The first collage is based on the character, Rayanne Graff in "My So-Called Life." Her style is 90's grunge and I'm basically hyperventilating on the idea that the 90's grunge trend is now back in style. This means there will be even more Rayanne Graff-like outfits flooding the markets, which makes me a very happy camper, if I say so myself!

Basically, think: combat boots, oversized plaid shirts, braided hair, dark lipstick, velvet, leather, choker necklaces, and black lace. There we have it, a pixilated computer generated Rayanne Graff, if you will.

This second collage is based off of Lux Lisbon, in the movie "TheVirgin Suicides." Her style is basically flower power meets Summer goddess. Even though her style is more summer-y, you can transition your Summer wardrobe into Fall by adding a white blazer to an outfit. Blazers are back in for Fall, and by wearing a dress, you are combining girly with menswear.

Think: white lace, white blazers, plaid mini skirts, daisies, pastels, and pearls.

This third collage is based on the character, Effy Stonem in the show, "Skins UK." Her style is also very grunge X girly. She will take a dress and shred it up, then pair it with a motorcycle jacket, ripped tights, and combat boots. For Fall, studs and spikes are a very big trend, especially when paired with girlier things. I added an over sized leopard jacket, because leopard is also everywhere in sight this season.

Think: over sized jackets, leather, smokey eyes, studs/spikes, black lace, and combat boots.

What are your favorite trends for the upcoming season? Any television show/movie characters that are inspiring your style at the moment? Leave your responses in the comments! :)

Daisy

I solemnly swear that the story you are about to here completely out of the ordinary.

My best friend, Genessa, and I decided to go to the Live Rookie Reading Event at Strange Magic. Normal. We decided, afterwards, that we would browse the Urban Outfitters next door to where the reading was being held. Still normal. We walked over to a rack of shirts in the corner of the store. Still normal, right? Uhm...no. Because, right behind the rack of clothing were a bunch of abstract art cube things that Urban Outfitters has, but wait! There's more! * info-commercial voice*  ...Behind those abstract cubes was a black kitten. Wait...wut.? Yeah...well Genessa and I started saying very loudly that there was a cat in Urban's store, running from employee to employee trying to get someone to understand that 1. There was a cat in their store. 2. We were not high nor crazy. Finally, someone working there listened to us. And this is how the conversaton went...
Genessa and me: Ecxuse me, there is a cat in your store!
UO Employee: Oh, the cat's back?

What? You knew about this cat? Yeah I know, cray. And I thought his response was hilarious, but besides the point...there was still a cat in their store. And, you should know, that I am obsessed with black cats and I have recently been wanting one a black cat. Isn't this a sign? Well, anyway we walked back to the corner where the cat had been, but it had disappeared. After trying to persuade the Urban employees to turn the break dancing full blast music down (the persuasion didn't work fyi) and about fifteen to twenty minutes of trying to see where it had run too, we thought we should wait some more and leave it alone...maybe it would come out eventually.

We ran into a girl that had also been to Strange Magic and we started to talk for about fifteen minutes. We told her about the cat and how I wanted that cat. I turned around to see if the cat had come out again. It did. And it was staring right into my eyes. I swear I heard it say "take me home,!" but  couldn't hear much over the obnoxious break dancing music. Unfortunately, it got scared again and ran to hide again.

We found out that it had run under the dressing room, inside this wooden crate type thing, and the Urban employee gave us cat food to give to the cat. It was still hiding, but it eventually ate the food. We decided to leave it alone, I left Urban my number, so they could call me once they got the cat out. I am going there tomorrow, again. I decided that if I got this cat, I would name it Daisy, even if it was a boy. But, I might also name it Rookie. After Rookie Mag (you know, the website that Tavi created---which is why I was at the installation (Strange Magic) in the first place. :)

Anyway, I thought I should share my interesting, crazy, out of dis world story.

Strange Magic

I cannot even explain the rush and excitement I got when the Space 15 Twenty employees told everyone anxiously waiting outside of the UO-changed into-a 90s girl's teenage bedroom, that it was time to come inside. It was the Opening Party of "Strange Magic" created by Tavi Gevinson of Style Rookie and Rookiemag; Petra Collins of The Ardorous; and Urban Outfitters. Strange Magic is one week filled with events about the life of a teenage girl and having fun.

When I walked into Strange Magic, my mood suddenly changed. I had never been happier in my life, and that is an understatement. I am not exaggerating when I say that I have never been happier. And when I say it was the best night of my life, I mean it too. The best dressed girls (and guys!) in LA were all in this one room. Everyone there was so sweet, happy, cool, and smiling. And I couldn't help but smile myself. It was a night filled with great people, happy tunes, and a lovely gallery created by Tavi and Petra.

The outfits I saw there inspired me so much! I wish everyone there shared one big closet filled with clothes, shoes, and accessories. That would be the most amazing closet in the world. No joke. And this was just the first night!

The gallery was even more than perfect. I couldn't believe my eyes! Everything was set up so perfectly, I couldn't help but take 1000 pictures. Also, the photography was amazing. I kind of want to live in that one room for the rest of my life, because it was just so happy and when looking at the whole set up, one couldn't help but smile. :) This night inspired me more than anything I could ever dream of. The night was a dream come true.

I met Tavi, and she is literally the sweetest person in the world. When I met her, it was like I had just met a new friend. She was so nice and cool! And towards the end of the night, I got to meet Petra. Again, she was so sweet and laidback and cool. And she is also like the sweetest person I have ever met. I also met a couple other people, all of whom are the coolest people ever.

Overall, that Saturday night was the best night of my life. And I can't wait for the old school dance this Saturday. I also went to the crown making event and made this rad crown. That day was also uhhhmazing!

Since I took about a million pictures, I thought I would share some on my blog. So, sit back and hyperventilate over the groovy pictures your eyes will now encounter.
